Kinobranie - 15th Summer Film Festival
LETNIE TANIE KINOBRANIE
15th Summer Film Festival
at Kino Pod Baranami
July 2 - August 26, 2021
The 15th edition of Letnie Tanie Kinobranie – Summer Film Festival has started. It will last for two months, which will be filled with more than 100 films, divided into 8 thematic weeks. The festival screenings will be accompanied by special events, including: open-air screenings, „Plakatobranie” (open poster archive) with life music, video projection mapping, screenings for seniors and children and, last but not least, online screenings on our VOD platform (e-kinopodbaranami.pl).
Letnie Tanie Kinobranie is undoubtedly one of the longest film festivals in the world. It lasts for eight weeks (July 2 – August 26) and is filled with films - from new releases to cult movies and cinema classics. The leitmotif of this year's Kinobranie is CINEMA and its various faces.
Letnie Tanie Kinobranie successfully combines opposites. Genre films go hand in hand with auteur cinema, and productions from all over the world are presented next to the latest works by Polish directors. Intimate art-house films sit side by side with blockbusters, while character actors appear on screen right next to big Hollywood stars.
Many films referring to classic film genres are screened at our Cinema: musicals (La La Land, Judy), westerns (Magnesium, First Cow, Slow West), detective stories (Marshland, Knives Out) and horrors (Saint Maud, The Shining, Midsommar). Kinobranie shows works of numerous filmmakers. Pedro Almodóvar fills the screen with colors and Spanish temperament (The Human Voice, Pain and Glory), Quentin Tarantino floods it with pop-cultural references (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood), and Xavier Dolan expresses his extraordinary sensitivity (Tom at the Farm, Matthias & Maxime). Also joining the ranks of expressive filmmakers with their distinctive style are: energizing Guy Ritchie (Gentlemen, Wrath of Man), mysterious Christopher Nolan (Inception, Tenet, The Dark Knight) and decadent Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty, Youth).
Kinobranie thinks about cinema globally - and locally! The program features films from many countries: Iceland (The County), Chile (Ema), China (The Wild Goose Lake, The Farewell, So Long, My Son), Mexico (Our Time), Russia (Loveless), Israel (Here We Are), Sudan (You Will Die at 20), Georgia (And Then We Danced), Italy (Made in Italy, The Burnt Orange Heresy, Call Me By Your Name) and South Korea (Burning, Parasite). Kinobranie also features many films from Poland: famous recent debuts (Tower. Bright Day, Love Tasting) and works by more experienced filmmakers (Corpus Christi, Charlatan).
Festival films feature many recognizable faces. Some of them appear on screen even a few times, including Penelope Cruz (Pain and Glory, Everybody Knows), Viggo Mortensen (Falling, Green Book) or Emma Stone (Cruella, La La Land). They are accompanied by screen veterans (Clint Eastwood, Anthony Hopkins, Jack Nicholson), acting phenomena of recent years (Anya Taylor Joy, Awkwafina, Florence Pugh, Timothée Chalamet) and undisputed Hollywood stars (Kate Winslet, Michael Fassbender, Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio).
Kultowe Kinobranie („Cult Cinema”) section includes famous and timeless films - brought in especially for the festival. Among them are absolute classics that are definitely worth knowing: captivating Breakfast at Tiffany's, cinephile Sunset Boulevard (The screening moved to the end of August), disturbing Birds and sunny Roman Holiday. It also includes newer titles that can be revisited over and over again: touching melodrama Bridges of Madison County, visionary sci-fi thriller Blade Runner, and this year's anniversary releases: The Coen Brothers' Fargo (25th anniversary) and Ridley Scott's Thelma and Louise (30th anniversary).
With foreign language viewers in mind, selected Polish and foreign films are presented with English subtitles.
